Kindergarten

The Kindergarten class exercises their writing and spelling skills in creating unique invitations to our end of year picnic.

Our full-day Kindergarten has two teachers and an assistant teacher and provides a low teacher-child ratio in a warm, nurturing setting. This allows children to have the special attention that honors their strengths and differences. Our full-day program provides time for concepts to be embellished, while also allowing students the opportunity to work on social skills, all in a relaxed, small school atmosphere.

Rich in content, our curriculum focuses on academic skills which are taught in interactive small groups. Language arts and math are at the core of our program. Helping our children become active participants in their learning process is an important goal of our Kindergarten teachers. As our kids develop strategies to problem solve, they also become increasingly more self-reliant. Our curriculum follows Pennsylvania State guidelines, and is in line with what is taught in the Lower Merion School District. We further enhance our program with weekly classes in Spanish, music, and creative movement. Kindergarteners regularly visit, and take books out from, our school library.

At Gateway, we strive to establish a community of eager learners. Whether it is working in small groups, sprawling on the floor to complete independent work, acting out a story, playing a math game, or enjoying our two playgrounds, we make learning fun every day!
